![]() The latest Civic Type R concept made its debut at the 2006 Geneva auto show, and it has got to be the wildest-looking factory Civic yet. As the Civic Si Coupe Concept made its debut just a few weeks prior to the Civic hatch concept, the tuner industry was abuzz with what a Type-R/hatchback version of this Civic could look like. Our first glimpses of the redesigned Civic hatch came out of Europe about a year ago when the 5-door Civic concept was shown at the 2005 Geneva Auto Show. Oh yeah, the EP-based Type R also came with a nifty little Union Jack on the hatch, just in case people forgot where the car was actually built. Granted, this last-gen Type R was heavier than the Japan-built EK-based hatch due to the fact that it actually had things like power windows and stuff, but it still sold well over 35,000 cars and racked up numerous awards. The UK-built Type R boasted a 200 horsepower K-series engine, beefy suspension and a proper aero kit. Built in Honda's Swindon plant, the last generation Type R was the real deal. While the name "Type R" conjures up thoughts of the ultimate in JDM tuning, the last EP-based Civic Type R was actually a British creation. While Americans had to pony up some extra cash for the Honda Factory Performance kit to see any kind of decent performance, the Brits had a Civic hatch that was ready and able to kick ass right off the showroom floor. loved the last generation EP Civic Si hatchback, but it was a car that actually had potential. Only this time, the ultimate Civic isn't a JDM lover's wet dream the ultimate Civic once again comes from England. Once again, it looks like those folks fortunate enough to live on the other side of the ocean get a better Civic than we do. But there's always something better, and such is the case with the Civic. ![]()
